Welcome to the All New
Metropolitan Hickory Society

The Metropolitan Hickory Society was originally formed as the Tri-State Hickory Players Club in mid-2011. The purpose then and is now to provide a club, a true players club for golfers who appreciate the history and traditions of this grand old game... the Greatest Game of all

We honor the heritage, spirit, traditions and history of the game with every hickory swing we take.

When playing with the old originals, we can sense, feel and wonder who the players were that used these fine sticks over the many years. Where were they made? St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Berwick? Were they built for a great Professional of the day, or a Champion Amateur, or just a regular Hickory Hacker. Did they get handed down from generation to generation over the past 100+ years, or have they taken a well-deserved sabbatical from the wind, rain and the elements at the auld courses in Scotland and have been hidden away or worse, forgotten, as if a buried treasure in the back of a closet. Or have they simply been on display in various golf dens, around the world... until... the owner of said club, gets the notion to take it down off the wall, take it to the back yard for a few gentle chip shots, and being struck by the incredible sensation of feel, history and tradition all rolled in to each shot... decides, Ah... I shall take this old implement to the course and give it a go...

We, the members of the Metropolitan Hickory Society, have already experienced this strangely familiar yet different style of golf and while comforted to know that while we have been playing golf as we know it for years, we now can play together with friends, new and old, a game of golf as it was intended to be played... no motorized carts, no electronic range finders, no stress or anxiety... just a wonderful walk on a beautiful old historic piece of land.

The Metropolitan Hickory Society will be presenting at least one tournament per month from May thru October. I encourage you to participate in as many of the events as possible as well as getting together and fostering relationships with other club members and playing, practicing and enjoying hickory golf in between our events as well.

The Metropolitan Hickory Society maintains very close and good relationships with the other Hickory groups and Society’s and Clubs around the country. We individually will participate in their events and they will reciprocate and play in ours as well. We will establish challenge matches against the various other clubs around the country and we will invite all the other hickory devotees around the country and around the world for that matter, to participate in our year end Tour Championship.

We at the Metropolitan Hickory Society welcome you back... back to a bygone time when things were much simpler. The big decisions of the day were... "Laddie, Do ya want ta play the new Ross course or the track that new fella, Tillinghast just completed? Oh, and don’t forget to bring your new Spoon and the Mashie ya just got. Oh right laddie, don’t be forgettin those new argyle socks with the matching plus 4’s and cap now either..." You know, actually, we will be asking ourselves the same basic questions this year as the journey back in time begins this season as the Metropolitan Hickory Society proudly presents ‘The Nickel and Dime’ Tournament , May 23, 2012 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J.

Welcome...
